MSG Laura Knutson, violinist, is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Northern Illinois University, where she studied with Charles Castleman and Shmuel Ashkenasi. She joined The U.S. Army Strings in 1990 and has served as Concertmaster of The U.S. Army Chamber Orchestra since 2004. She also served as Concertmaster of the Arlington Symphony from 1997 until 2005. She has participated in summer music festivals in Spoleto, Italy, Charleston, SC, and Heidelberg, Germany. MSG Knutson performed as soloist with the National Symphony as the 1983 winner of their Young Soloist Competition. In addition to frequent solo performances and recitals with "Pershing's Own" and The U.S. Army Orchestra, she has been featured as soloist with the Fairfax Symphony, the Arlington Symphony, and the American University Orchestra. She is married to Navy Band trombonist MUSC Jeff Knutson. They have two children, Alma and Jan, ages 15 and 17. MSG Knutson enjoys gardening and reading.
