With a vocal range of over three octaves, bass Jonathan Deutsch has presently performed sixty bass and baritone oratorio works. His international appearances include thirty two performances of Verdi's Requiem; Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Missa Solemnis in Europe, Mexico, Panama, Canada; and a commercial video of Handel's Messiah recorded live in the first concert ever presented in the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem. His American performances include a world premiere performance and subsequent recording of Shostakovich's cantata Rayok in the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Concert Hall, Mstislav Rostropovich conducting; Beethoven's Mass in C with the National Symphony Orchestra in the National Cathedral, Beethoven Ninths with Leonard Slatkin conductoin the National Symphohny in the Kennedy Center; Ivan the Terrible at Wolf Trap with the National Symphony; Mozart's Requiem with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; Brahms' Requiem conducted by Sherrill Milnes in the Cathedral of St. John the Devine, NY, and in Annapolis, MD; and Schubert's Mass in G in Carnegie Hall. He has also sung 11 operas in 14 countries, including 9 performances of Saint-Saens' "Samson and Delilah" (The Old Hebrew) with Placido Domingo, Denyce Graves and the Washington National Opera. A native of Fargo, ND, a former U.S. Air Force military policeman, and a criminology graduate of Moorhead State University (MN), MSG Deutsch is the senior member of the United States Army Chorus and the senior vocalist of the U.S. Armed Forces.
