SFC Raffi Kasparian has been pianist for The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” at Fort Myer, VA, near Washington, DC, since 1994. Prior to this assignment, SFC Kasparian was principal pianist of The United States Army Field Band, Ft. Meade, MD.
Raffi earned his bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of California at Northridge, his master’s degree in piano performance from Peabody Conservatory and his doctorate in piano performance from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He continued his education with post-doctoral studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
SFC Kasparian has given solo and collaborative recitals throughout the United States and Canada, and his concert tours have taken him as far away as Turkey and the Philippines. He has performed as soloist in the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and is a frequent soloist in the Baltimore-Washington area at such locations as the Phillips Art Gallery, The Anderson House, The Lyceum, Catholic University, University of Maryland, and local churches.
He has also been heard on WQXR Radio in New York, on Maryland public radio, and on PBS Television.
In addition to his performing schedule, SFC Kasparian composes and arranges piano and choral music. His unusual arrangements of "Autumn Leaves" and "Once Upon a Time" showcase the piano while the chorus acts as accompanist. Kasparian also coaches advanced piano students.
