The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” announces a vacancy for Mezzo Soprano/Alto with the Army’s premier musical organization, located 5 minutes from downtown Washington D.C.

The vacancy is for a Mezzo Soprano/Alto in a mixed vocal ensemble comprised of 2 sopranos, 2 altos, 2 tenors and 2 basses. This ensemble frequently performs at the White House, the Pentagon, the Washington, D.C. area, and throughout the United States. The repertoire of this vocal group encompasses Classical, Broadway, Pop, Rock, Country and R&B. The position requires an individual possessing exceptional musicianship and stylistic flexibility. Additional duties will include performances with the Concert Band, Army Strings, Army Chorus and the Army Blues.

Applicants must demonstrate strong, versatile abilities in the following areas:

  • Solo and ensemble performance
  • Sight reading capabilities
  • Proficiency in a variety of musical styles both classical and commercial

All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement. Anyone offered a position would be expected to pass the Army’s physical examination and meet other standards required to enlist in the Armed Forces. Individuals must enlist and begin Basic Combat Training prior to their 35th birthday.

Auditions will be held by INVITATION ONLY on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” 400 McNair Road, Ft. Myer, Virginia 22211-1306.

Recent enlistment policy has heavily restricted prior service personnel from re-entering the Army. Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter about these policies before making travel arrangements.
