Eligibility

All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement.

Acceptance of a position requires a minimum four-year enlistment in the United States Army.

Anyone offered a position would be expected to pass an Army physical examination, meet Army height/weight standards, and meet other standards required to enlist in the United States Army. Individuals must enlist and begin Basic Combat Training (BCT), prior to their 35th birthday. Recent enlistment policy has heavily restricted prior service personnel from re-entering the Army. Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter about these policies.

Auditioning

The U.S. Army Band conducts competitive auditions only for specific vacancies. The audition may include the performance of a prepared solo, excerpts, and sight-reading.

All applicants interested in auditioning for an announced vacancy must submit a resume and a full-length photograph. Military applicants must also submit an Enlisted Records Brief (ERB) or equivalent and a Commander’s letter of intent. Some vacancies will also require the submission of a CD.

All applicants are responsible for their own travel expenses. Please refer to the individual vacancy web pages listed above for more specific audition information.

Benefits

Members of the band are given the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 42S (forty-two sierra), “Musician” (formerly Special Band Member). Personnel are promoted to the grade of Staff Sergeant (E-6) upon completion of four-months of active-duty service and enjoy full military benefits, including medical and dental care; 30-days paid vacation each year; a permanent duty assignment to Fort Myer, VA; and educational benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill.

Annual starting salary $54,100 (no dependents); $61,500 (w/dependents).
