The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” the U.S. Army’s premier musical organization, announces a vacancy for Trumpet with The U.S. Army Ceremonial Band.
Providing a musical backdrop for many of the country’s most notable events, The U.S. Army Ceremonial Band has a worldwide reputation for extraordinary musicianship. The musicians in this elite ensemble have been trained at some of the most prestigious conservatories and universities in the country. The Ceremonial Band is comprised of 70 musicians whose principal function is the performance of funerals in Arlington National Cemetery and various other ceremonies in the National Capital region.
Ceremonial duties are primarily conducted outdoors in all types of weather and involve standing and marching. The typical work schedule varies from day to day, but mainly consists of daytime work hours with an occasional night or weekend. There is some travel but it averages less than three weeks a year. Performances, in addition to those in Arlington National Cemetery, include White House and Pentagon arrival ceremonies, wreath ceremonies given in honor of visiting Heads of State and other dignitaries, and monthly retirement ceremonies.
Ceremonial musicians substitute within other elements in The U.S. Army Band and have regular opportunities to perform on concerts, recitals and as soloists.
Military benefits include medical and dental care; 30-days paid vacation each year; a permanent duty assignment to Fort Myer; educational benefits such the Montgomery G.I. Bill. Annual starting salary for a Staff Sergeant is: $56,225.
Auditions will be at Brucker Hall, home of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” at 400 McNair Road, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211-1306. All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement.
Please submit a resume and a full-length photograph by Wednesday, January 18, 2012 to the address below or electronically to the Auditions Coordinator, Master Sergeant Sylvia Stanton. Clearly label name, address, telephone number and e-mail address on all items. Military applicants must also include their Enlisted Records Brief, or equivalent, and a Commander’s letter of intent. Recent enlistment policy has heavily restricted prior service personnel from re-entering the Army. Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter about these policies before making travel arrangements.
All rounds will be held at Brucker Hall, located 5 minutes from downtown Washington, DC, and invited candidates must pay for their own travel and lodging. The audition will include the performance of prepared excerpts and sight-reading.
Anyone offered a position would be expected to pass the Army’s physical examination and meet other standards required to enlist in the Armed Forces. Individuals must enlist and begin Initial Entry Training (IET), formerly known as Basic Combat Training, prior to their 35th birthday.

An audition repertoire packet will be sent upon receipt of application materials.
