Pianist/Accompanist Vacancy, The U.S. Army Chorus

The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” announces a vacancy for pianist/accompanist with the Army’s premier musical organization, located 5 minutes from downtown Washington, DC.

The Army Chorus, a professional ensemble comprised of tenors and basses, frequently performs at the White House, around the Washington, DC area for official functions, and throughout the United States. The diverse repertoire of the Chorus ranges from Classical to Broadway to Patriotic. The position of pianist/accompanist for this dynamic ensemble requires a musician who possesses extraordinary vocal accompanying skills in addition to being able to perform with the Band and Orchestra as needed.

Military benefits include medical and dental care; 30-days paid vacation each year; a permanent assignment to Fort Myer; educational benefits such as the College Loan Repayment Program (up to $65,000). Annual starting salary for a Staff Sergeant is: $51,000 (no dependents) and $58,000 (w/dependents).

Auditions

Auditions will be by INVITATION ONLY and will be held at The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” 400 Mc Nair Road, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211-1306. All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement.

Applicants must demonstrate strong, versatile abilities in the following areas:

  • Solo and ensemble performance, particularly in vocal accompanying
  • Exceptional sight reading capabilities
  • Improvisational skills
  • Proficiency in a variety of musical styles including Classical, Pop, Broadway

Please submit the following items:

  • CD of four selections to include two accompanied vocal works (aria or lieder and something demonstrating a popular vein), and two solo works of a varied nature (one classical and the other popular).
  • Resume
  • Full length photograph

Submit items by posted deadline to the address below. Clearly label name, address, telephone number and e-mail address on all items. Military applicants must also include their Enlisted Records Brief, or equivalent, and a Commander’s letter of intent.

Submission of your materials signifies the first round of the audition process. Final rounds will be held live at Fort Myer and invited candidates will pay for their travel.

Anyone offered a position will be expected to pass the Army’s physical examination and meet other standards required to enlist in the Armed Forces. INDIVIDUALS MUST ENLIST AND ENTER THE MILITARY PRIOR TO THEIR 42ND BIRTHDAY.
