AUDITION DATE: The preliminary and semi-final rounds will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 with the final rounds on Thursday, August 26, 2010.

The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” announces a vacancy for Violin with the Army’s premier musical organization, located 5 minutes from downtown Washington, DC.

The U.S. Army Strings, a premier ensemble of the U.S. Armed Forces, provides a musical backdrop for many of the country’s most notable events. Its mission is to serve as musical ambassadors for high level military and government events at home and abroad as well as in concert for public audiences. The twenty elite musicians that comprise this ensemble have been trained at the most prestigious music conservatories and universities in the country. This versatile ensemble performs as The U.S. Army Strolling Strings, mixed chamber ensembles, and The U.S. Army Orchestra.

Military benefits include medical and dental care; 30-days paid vacation each year; a permanent assignment to Fort Myer, VA; educational benefits such as the College Loan Repayment Program (up to $65,000). Annual starting salary for a Staff Sergeant is: $51,000 (no dependents) and $58,000 (w/dependents).

Auditions

Auditions will be by INVITATION ONLY at The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own”, 400 McNair Road, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211-1306. All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement.

Please submit a resume and a full length photograph by posted deadline to the address below or packet may be submitted electronically to the Auditions Coordinator Sergeant First Class Sylvia Stanton. Clearly label name, address, telephone number and e-mail address on all items. Military applicants must also include their Enlisted Records Brief, or equivalent, and a Commander’s letter of intent.

Submission of your materials signifies the first round of the audition process. Final rounds will be held live at Fort Myer and invited candidates will pay for their travel. As part of the live audition, applicants must demonstrate superlative sight-reading skills, as well as musical versatility in various symphonic, chamber music, and commercial settings.

Anyone offered a position will be expected to pass the Army’s physical examination and meet other standards required to enlist in the Armed Forces. Individuals must enlist and begin Basic Combat Training prior to his/her 42nd birthday.
