Captain Randy Bartel, a native of Marshall, Missouri, holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Methodist University and a Master of Music degree in Wind Conducting from the University of Missouri. He began his military service as a member of the United States Marine Corps, serving six years as a trumpet instrumentalist with the Quantico Marine Band in Quantico, Virginia.

While at the University of Missouri, he served as a Graduate Assistant with the University of Missouri Band Program, and was an instructor and band leader with the Missouri Summer Music Institute. His teachers have included Keith House and Tom O’Neal. Capt. Bartel taught for four years in the public school system of Missouri, serving as Director of Bands at Elsberry Public Schools.

Capt. Bartel attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, receiving his commission as a Distinguished Military Graduate in April, 2005. He went on to attend the Adjutant General Officer Basic Course at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where he was awarded the President Benjamin Harrison Medal as the honor graduate. His previous assignments were as the Executive Officer and Associate Conductor of the Army Ground Forces Band, and as Staff Bands Officer, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Georgia. Capt. Bartel deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and served for a year as the United States Forces - Iraq’s Band Programs Officer.

Capt. Bartel’s professional affiliations have included the Music Educators National Conference, Missouri Music Educators Association, Missouri Bandmasters Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Music Fraternity.

His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
