
Major Paul Bamonte, a native of Washington, DC, serves as Associate Conductor of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” Director of The U.S. Army Strings, and conductor of The U.S. Army Orchestra, located in the Nation’s Capital. His previous appointments include service as Commander and Conductor of the Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta, Georgia, from 2004-2006; Associate Conductor of the U.S. Army Field Band, Washington, DC, from 2000-2003; and Associate Conductor of the Army Ground Forces Band, Atlanta, Georgia, from 1998-2000. During his most recent tour of duty with the Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta, he performed as the seventh Music Director of the Atlanta Wind Symphony where he serves as principal guest conductor.
Maj. Bamonte holds a Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia, where he studied with Frances Averitt. He studied orchestral and opera conducting at Florida State University (FSU), Tallahassee, Florida, under Mark Gibson, the Director of Orchestral Studies at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. While at FSU, he served as Assistant Conductor for the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra and Opera. He has attended conducting classes with Robert Spano at the Tanglewood Music Center, Otto Werner-Mueller at Le Domain Forget in Quebec, and Eugene Corporon at the Conducting Symposium of the University of North Texas. Before entering the military, Maj. Bamonte served as Music Director at Opera in the Ozarks and was Assistant Music Director of the Festival of the Atlantic in Monmouth, New Jersey.
