WASHINGTON—Spirit of America, the free patriotic show presented by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington, will perform four shows at the Gund Arena Sept. 23–24, 2005.
Spirit of America is a show about Soldiers’ experiences throughout 230 years of history, performed by Soldiers–not actors explaining how the Army helped build this nation. Spirit of America educates, entertains and inspires. This show brings history to life, it entertains with the Army’s elite ceremonial units, and we hope it inspires people to answer the call to duty in their own way.
The U.S. Army brings Spirit of America to life by calling upon its premier ceremonial units, each with a unique history of its own. Audiences will experience breathtaking ceremonial drills, historical reenactments, stirring music, and inspiring true stories of men and women who have served their country as Soldiers for 230 years.
The two-hour show features performances by the United States Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” and The 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard). Featured elements of The Old Guard include the Old Guard Caisson Platoon, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, the Commander-in-Chief’s Guard, and the U.S. Army Drill Team.
Spirit of America has become a family tradition in Washington, D.C. for more than 25 years. In addition to performing in Washington, the show was taken to Albany, N.Y. and Worcester, Mass. In 2004. Spirit of America opens in Rochester, N.Y., for four shows at the Blue Cross Arena Sept. 9 and 10, returns to Washington for four shows at the MCI Center, and then travels to Cleveland, Ohio, for another set of four shows Sept. 23 and 24. Show dates and times are listed below.
Tickets for all Spirit of America shows are free and open to the general public. For more information about Spirit of America, please visit our Web site at www.mdw.army.mil or call toll-free 1-866-239-9425.
