The competition will be held at the ETW Jazz Club, located on historic Ft. Myer’s NCO Club, on Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 8:00PM.
The Eastern Trombone Workshop’s National Solo Jazz Competition is one of the most successful and popular jazz trombone competitions in the nation. In addition to providing valuable experience working through the competitive audition recording process, this event offers a venue for outstanding young talent to perform with the prestigious U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble. Those interested in competing will find it worth the effort. The competition is co-sponsored by The National Jazz Workshop and The Capitol Bones.

Entry recordings should be recorded live with a rhythm section. CD format or emailed sound files. Live performance recordings and CD projects are acceptable. Please include all contact information directly on the CD. Performers who are selected to advance to the final round will bring three copies of the chord changes for their tunes to the rehearsal on Wednesday March 21, 2012. The competition will take place at 8:00pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 TBA. The winner and finalists may also perform at the 10:00pm show with The Capitol Bones and guest adjudicators. The winner will also perform with The U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble on Friday, March 23th, 2012. Please remember that your submission will be received along with many of others. Therefore, it is very important that you clearly and accurately mark your submission with the following information:

Age requirements must by met as of December 1, 2011. Proof of age (photocopy of driver’s license, visa, or birth certificate) must be provided with the application. The deadline for materials mailed is December 1, 2011. The deadlind for materials emailed is December 15, 2011. A postal carrier should be consulted to ensure that your mailed application packet is postmarked before that time. Materials will be forwarded to the adjudicators of December 15, 2011. NOTE: Tracking number services through postal carriers are highly recommended. Media mail service is NOT recommended. Recordings will not be returned to the applicants. Therefore, be sure to keep track of the masters (do not send master recordings, only a high quality copy on CD).

Finalists will be notified by January 15, 2012 by email or phone. If selected as a finalist, you will be expected to perform on one selection with The U.S. Army Blues Jazz Ensemble on Friday, March 23, 2012. Selected finalists are responsible for all travel, lodging and meal expenses to and from ETW.
