Matthew Lyon, tuba
Christian Carichner is currently Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at The University of Central Arkansas and holds degrees from Ithaca College and Arizona State University. Christian has performed or taught in 47 different states and 12 countries across the globe including a recent appearance at the 2010 ITEC. Christian has also performed with the Arizona Musicfest Orchestra, the Tampa Tradewinds, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, Rhythm and Brass, Proteus 7, Salt River Brass, and the national tour of the hit Broadway musical Chicago. Also, Christian currently serves as the Brass Caption Head for Phantom Regiment.
Robert Benton is an active recitalist and teacher in the Michigan area. He holds teaching positions at the University of Windsor, Adrian College and the University of Michigan.
He has performed as a soloist in the US, Europe and Asia. He has performed concerti with the Jeju Symphony Orchestra, the Michigan State Symphony Orchestra, and various bands and brass bands in the Midwest. Devoted to new music, Robert has commissioned and premiered works by Joel Puckett, Steven Bryant and Ricardo Lorenz. Many of these works can be heard on his debut CD, Blue. Robert Benton is a Buffet-Crampon/Besson Performing Artist.
Matthew Lyon is the recently appointed Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Ball State University. Professor Lyon is a graduate of Depaul University, the University of Michigan, and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He was Principal Tubist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and has substituted with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the New World Symphony. Professor Lyon has been selected as a guest artist for the 2012 International Tuba/Euphonium Conference in Austria. His principal teachers include Floyd Cooley, Gene Pokorny, Warren Deck, Wesley Jacobs, and Fritz Kaenzig.
Pianist, Caryl Worthington Conger, continues her passion for musical collaboration performing with artists throughout the U. S. and abroad. Her special niche of interest has been her collaboration with low brass artists. She has performed as a staff pianist at the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conference for almost twenty years, the International Euphonium Institute, the International Women’s Brass Conference, and the International Tuba & Euphonium Conferences. Caryl was on the music faculty of Radford University in Radford, Virginia before retiring in 2003. She moved to the mountains outside Estes Park, Colorado where she continues an active career in free-lance music making.
