Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Mr. Marvin K. Hancock graduated from H.D. Woodson Sr. High School in 1979 and joined the U.S. Army that same year. He received Army Training at Ft. Dix, New Jersey and served as a transportation specialist at Ft. Polk, LA, Seoul, Korea, Mannheim and Kaiserslautern Germany and Ft. Eustis, VA. Mr. Hancock joined the District of Columbia National Guard Reserve in 1986, deployed to the Persian Gulf (Desert Shield/Storm) in 1990-91, and remained with that unit until 1994. Prior to joining The United States Army Band in 2006, Mr. Hancock was employed by The United States Army Corps of Engineers and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He is the father of three adult children, Marvette, Porsche’, and Delonte’, and currently resides in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
