MAJ Dae Kim


Major Dae Kim serves as an Associate Conductor with The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Washington, DC. A native of Philadelphia, PA, MAJ Kim is a graduate of Temple University, from which he holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Music, having studied conducting with Luis Biava, Arthur Chodoroff, and Timothy Oliver. An accomplished clarinetist, MAJ Kim has performed under many noted conductors, including Christoph Eschenbach, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Leonard Slatkin. Solo and festival appearances include the Academy of Music, Aspen Music Festival, and the National Orchestral Institute. His principal teachers were Samuel Caviezel and Ronald Reuben. MAJ Kim’s previous assignments include multiple deployments as Theater Music Liaison Officer, United States Army Central, Southwest Asia; Commander, the Army Ground Forces Band, Fort Bragg, NC; Staff Music Officer, Forces Command, Fort Bragg, NC; Deputy Commander, United States Military Academy Band, West Point, NY, and Executive Officer, the Army Ground Forces Band, Fort McPherson, GA. His military training includes the Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, GA, where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate; Basic Officer Leader Course, Fort Sill, OK; Army Band Officer Course, Little Creek, VA; and the Captains Career Course, Little Creek, VA. MAJ Kim’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (one oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Gold German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency.
