The U.S. Army Band Clarinet Quintet

The U.S. Army Band Clarinet Quartet

The U.S. Army Band Clarinet Quintet has established itself as one of the first ensembles of its kind by adding a fifth member to the more traditional clarinet quartet. This allows the Quintet an unparalleled flexibility in instrumentation and creates the group’s signature sound. Comprised of members of The U.S. Army Concert and Ceremonial Band clarinet sections, the Quintet performs frequently throughout the nation’s capital providing musical support for official Army functions, as well as bringing music to schools and universities with its educational outreach programs and master classes. The Quintet has also been featured in recital performances at The United States Air Force Band Clarinet Symposium, the Brevard Summer Music Festival, Gettysburg College Clarinet Day, The United States Navy Band Clarinet Day, and the Quintet can frequently be heard performing on the “Pershing’s Own” Chamber Music Series.

The Quintet is dedicated to expanding its repertoire by commissioning new works for this unique instrumentation. In February 2014, the Quintet premiered its first commission, Nightsounds by MSG Jeffrey Cortazzo, at Brucker Hall, the headquarters of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” on historic Ft. Myer in Arlington, Virginia. The work was so well received that the Quintet was invited to repeat their performance at the largest international clarinet convention, ClarinetFest 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
