The 2000s

In the new millennium, the Army Band has been active carrying forward the traditions of the Army Band. The band performed for the New Year’s Eve 1999 America’s Millenium: A Celebration For The Nation at the Lincoln Memorial.

After September 11, 2001, the band assisted in the recovery efforts at the Pentagon, providing musical, technical, and logistical support for the efforts. In October, 2001, the band performed a tribute to the citizens of New York City at The Lincoln Center, and performed for a memorial service at Ground Zero the next day.

In 2001, the band appeared at the Special Olympics World Games; and in 2002, the band performed at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In December of 2002, a contingent from the Army Band took part in a six day USO tour of Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. This was the first time the Army Band had performed in a theater of foreign combat operations since World War II.
