Public Affairs Associate, Social Media Manager and Assistant Unit Photographer

ELIGIBILITY

All applicants must have U.S. citizenship due to a security clearance requirement. Acceptance of a position requires a minimum four-year enlistment in the United States Army. Vacancies are available to qualified civilians and military personnel of the rank E-6 and below. Military applicants above the rank of E-6 and/or having more than 10 years time-in-service require an exception to policy for invitation.

Anyone offered a position would be expected to pass an Army physical examination, meet Army height/weight standards, and meet other standards required to enlist in the United States Army prior to being invited to audition. Individuals must enlist and begin Basic Combat Training (BCT), prior to their 35th birthday. Recent enlistment policy has heavily restricted prior service personnel from re-entering the Army. Prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter about these policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement content strategy to increase unit-level and DA-level brand awareness
  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences across primary social media platforms
  • Set specific goals in relation to growth and engagement, and provide analysis to determine effectiveness of content in terms of brand awareness
  • Generate, edit, publish, and share engaging content daily (original text, photos, video, news, etc.)
  • Tailor and leverage content in ways which improve visibility and ranking within search engine results pages
  • Communicate with followers and respond to questions in a timely manner and monitor customer interaction on each platform
  • Develop and implement creative ways to engage existing followers and expand unit’s brand awareness
  • Develop and execute a content calendar to coordinate timely content production across various platforms
  • Oversee social media account design (Cover/timeline photos, profile photos, other layout)
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media and analytics tools
  • Collaborate with Digital Media Manager and website managers to feature content in compelling and engaging ways
  • As assistant unit photographer, gather compelling imagery for use in social media and marketing campaigns
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 2 years experience creating engaging content and managing social media properties in a professional environment
  • Demonstrable experience writing, editing, and crafting content for social media
  • Experience with Google Analytics and preferred social media management tools will be considered favorably
  • Demonstrable experience leveraging social media management and analytics tools
  • Experience in explaining complex social media data in an understandable way
  • Strong Visual Intelligence in order to create visually appealing photographs and graphics
  • Strong media literacy with the ability to access, analyze, and evaluate media in different forms
  • Possess ability to identify potential engagement opportunities and ability to map work to trending news
  • Possess a passion for learning new technology tools including graphic design and photography
  • Ability to engage and form partnerships with communications leaders in other organizations

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Familiarity with desktop database management
  • Digital media content creation skills and video editing will be favorably considered

INTERVIEW INFORMATION

Interviews will be held at Brucker Hall, home of The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” at 400 McNair Road, Fort Myer, Virginia 22211-1306.

Upon review of all submitted packets, invitations to attend the live interview/visit to Fort Myer will be extended during August.

Travel expenses for civilians will be paid for by The U.S. Army pending enlistment qualification and funding approval. Military personnel should refer to their respective units to request travel funding.
