Biography

Prior to joining The U.S. Army Chorus, SSG Matthew Burke, a Connecticut native, graduated with a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Connecticut in May 2016. He served on the voice faculty at the Hartt School of Music Community Division from 2016-2017 after completing a German concert tour in September 2016 with Boston-based early music ensemble Cantico Armonico. Burke was a featured concert soloist in the Connecticut area. 2016-2017 season highlights include: Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Vivaldi’s Magnificat, RV 610, Poulenc’s Gloria, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Burke has sung with Connecticut-based professional choral ensembles Voce and Concora.In addition to performing as a soloist in cantata and oratorio work, Burke enjoys performing in operas and musical theater. Having performed in over 30 musicals and operas, he is equally at home on and off the stage. Some recent performance credits include: Gabriel von Eisenstein in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Frederic in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, Nemorino (cover) in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Arithmetic/Tree Frog in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges, Jaffett in Britten’s Noye’s Fludde, Mayor Upfold in Britten’s Albert Herring. He currently studies voice with soprano, Dr. Constance Rock.
